62nd Annual Free Care Fund Benefit Show on KDKA Showcases Over $1.8 Million Raised for Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation

December 18, 2015

Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation announced during the 62nd Annual Free Care Fund Benefit Show that it raised over $1.8 million in donations and pledges in 2015. The live broadcast was held on Thursday, Dec. 17, at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC and at PPG Wintergarden in downtown Pittsburgh. The show was broadcast on KDKA-TV and on NewsRadio 1020 KDKA.

“As we celebrate Children’s Hospital’s 125th anniversary, we thank and applaud this community for their generous and long-standing support of the Free Care Fund, which allows us to be there for every child, regardless of circumstance,” said Greg Barrett, president, Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation. “Without the support of our community and partners like KDKA, providing this level of expert and compassionate care to children and their families in need simply would not be possible.”

The Free Care Fund provides free and uncompensated care to children in the region who need the care of Children’s, but whose family cannot afford it because of lack of health insurance, a child who has an illness that exceeds what insurance will pay, has a chronic illness, or needs experimental treatment.

In 2014, Children’s provided $21.4 million in free and uncompensated care to children in the region.
The top three corporate donors to this year’s 2015 Free Care Fund Benefit Show were Eat’n Park, Howard Hanna, and Pittsburgh Magazine.
