Items to Bring from Home

Your child's room at the hospital should be as comfortable as possible. Sentimental items–such as photographs of family and friends–and items to help pass the time–such as games or music–can help to alleviate some of the stress of being away from home.

Here are some suggestions on what to bring:

  • Patient clothes
  • Pajamas and slippers
  • Parent clothes
  • Parent toiletries
  • Pictures/photos
  • Favorite videos
  • Favorite music (CDs or MP3 players)
  • Favorite toys
  • Security object (doll, stuffed animal, blanket – needs to be washed every two days)
  • Books (for patient and parent)
  • Nintendo/Play Station
  • Laptop computer with games
  • Journal
  • Plastic container for toys
  • Schoolwork/homework
  • Favorite snacks
  • Phone/address book

The Child Life Specialist will give your child craft supplies (crayons, markers, scissors, glue, paper, etc). You will not need to bring these items from home.
