Ready, Set, School! Program at Center for Independence

Ready, Set, School! is designed to help prepare children to function optimally at school and in other settings. The program is offered by the Center for Independence. Professionals from Behavioral HealthOccupational TherapyPhysical Therapy, and Speech-Language Pathology will work with children who participate in the program.

Who should participate?

Children who are transitioning to kindergarten or 1st grade and need help developing gross motor, fine motor, and/or speech-language skills.

What will they learn?

Ready, Set, School! will help children:

  • Develop turn-taking and problem-solving skills
  • Express their emotions effectively
  • Understand feelings in themselves and others
  • Follow rules and directions
  • Improve fine motor skills like coloring or writing, cutting, and snacking
  • Build gross motor skills like balance, coordination, and whole body movement
  • Improve speech-language skills, like using greetings and answering questions appropriately

Where is Ready, Set, School! held?

The program will be held at the following Center for Independence locations:

When are the sessions?

Sessions will be held two times a week for 10 weeks.

What should my child bring?

Your child should have:

  • Clothes that are easy to move in and that can get dirty or messy
  • Sneakers
  • A light snack in a container with his or her name on it. No peanuts!
