What is Telemedicine?

Telemedicine allows doctors to diagnose and treat patients from a distance through telecommunications technology.

The use of telemedicine has grown rapidly over the last forty years, beginning with hospitals extending care to patients in remote areas.

Today, Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC is leading the way in using telemedicine services to:

Provide complex pediatric care through remote and virtual means, any time of the day or night.
Save you a trip for a simple doctor's visit by bringing the care to you through modern technology.
Meet the health needs of young patients regionally and around the world.

Our state-of-the-art digital technology allows us to consistently meet your child's urgent, emergent, and scheduled outpatient.

These include a growing variety of applications and services such as:

Video conferencing using audio and video to connect people at different sites for clinical consults or care. encounters.
Store-and-forward using secure email to electronically transmit health records, images, and other information.

Our Telemedicine Center enables more convenient and timely access to pediatric services than traditional in-person office encounters.
