ADHD
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder has an impact on both the diagnosed child and his family.  Mark Diamond, M.D. of CCP South Hills Pediatrics will discuss what a diagnosis of ADHD means for a child and his family, as well as a number of effective management and treatment options. 

Alone at Home
Children ages 10 and up with their parent(s). Physical and emotional readiness, appropriate behaviors and creation of a family safety plan for children home alone. 

Avoid Power Struggles with Your Kids
Learn how to avoid everyday struggles with your kids, stop nagging and use options to increase cooperation.

Babysitting 101
Boys and girls ages 11 and up can learn about safety for themselves and the children in their care. This class includes first aid basics, choking rescue techniques, child development and routine daily care.

Bullies:  What To Do When Kids Are Mean
All children occasionally are teased or behave aggressively. Parents can learn to help their children respond to bullies, teasing and aggressive behavior. Assertiveness skills and coping strategies will be discussed.     

Car Seat Safety
Is your child’s car seat installed correctly?  Probably not, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.  Child car seats can be checked by certified technicians at a site sponsored by Team Educators for Child Safety (TECHS).  By appointment. The Challenging Child
For parents of children 2-7 years old. All children can be challenging, some more than others.  Strategies for helping parents deal effectively with their child's challenging behaviors will be presented by Carla Weidman, PhD, a psychologist with Children’s Child Development Unit.

CPR (Infant and Child)
For parents and other adults. American Heart Association’s Family and Friends non-certification course.  Learn proper emergency responses and how to save an infant or child.

Eating Healthy
A Children's Hospital Weight Management and Wellness Center specialist presents this class for all parents to learn how to promote healthful eating and physical activity to prevent children from becoming overweight.

First Aid for Kids
Children ages 10- 14. How to care for minor injuries and when and how to call for emergency help. First aid kits are provided.

Good Night, Sleep Tight! 
For parents of children from birth to six years old. Parents and children all need a good night’s sleep.  John  Broyles, CRNP of the Division of Pulmonary Medicine, Allergy, and Immunology will discuss helpful hints on preventing and treating common behavioral sleep problems. 

The Happiest Baby on the Block^TM
For expectant and new parents.  Learn Dr. Harvey Karp’s  fun and effective step by step approach to help all infants sleep longer and soothe even the fussiest baby in minutes.  Participants will receive the Parent Kit- choice of VHS or DVD and the Soothing Sounds CD ($40 retail value).

Social networks, instant messages, chat rooms, www.what? A Special Agent from the FBI will teach parents how to set guidelines and safeguards to allow their children to explore the world wide web while protecting their privacy and keeping them safe.

Parenting your Adolescent
For parents of children ages 10-17.  Discuss the challenges of raising teenagers.  Review adolescent development and effective parenting skills to encourage respect, set limits and reinforce positive behavior choices.

Positive Parenting
For parents of children ages 2-12. Explore the challenges of raising kids. Learn practical ways to build healthy, happy relationships with your children and enhance self-esteem. Other topics include discipline techniques that teach children self-control and trust, effective communication and problem solving.

RED, Before the Crash
For parents and teens, before or after they have their driver's permit or license.  RED- Reality Education for Drivers offers families an unvarnished perspective of the life altering impact careless driving can have on themselves, families and friends.  The factors that increase a teen driver's risk of a motor vehicle crash and the steps that families can take to prevent crashes will be discussed.

Social You, Sexual You: Social Relationships for Youth with Special Needs
Parents and their children ages 10 to 18.  This three-part program for families with children who have physical or developmental disabilities.  The Circles® curriculum will be used to involve children and parents in discussion and activities related to levels of intimacy, social and sexual boundaries and appropriate social behaviors.  The first session is for parents or caregivers only.

Social You, Sexual You: Growing Up Together for Daughters and Sons with Special Needs
Parents and their children ages 10 to 18.  A three-part program for families with children with physical or developmental disabilities to learn about the physical, emotional, and social changes of puberty. Information on hygiene, self-care, communication and social skills will be offered. The first session is for parents or caregivers only.

Discovery, learning about health care and hospitals

The Discovery Program is available to groups of 10 or more in preschools, day care centers, primary grades, and community organizations. The children will learn about the positive aspects of hospitals and health care settings through a presentation using photographs, video, dolls, and safe medical supplies. Discovery enhances children’s trust in health care providers and lessens their fears and misconceptions if they or a family member must be hospitalized.
