Telephone Triage & Advice CenterDescription of ServicesThe Telephone Triage & Advice Center provides evening, night and weekend on-call coverage for primary care physicians (PCPs) by enabling pediatric registered nurses to serve in an on-call capacity. The Nursing staff functions as an extension of the primary care pediatricians’ practices by triaging all physicians’ after-hours clinical calls in accordance with approved telephone protocols. All telephone encounters are documented with a detailed patient assessment and recommenced protocol advice and are faxed to the child’s PCP. The Telephone Triage & Advice Center provides on-call coverage for more than 140 primary care physicians throughout southwestern Pennsylvania. It also functions as the Pediatric Advice Line for UPMC Health Plan.
