The Division of General Academic Pediatrics at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC offers Fellowship Programs in General Academic Pediatrics and Medicine-Pediatrics. These fellowships are part of a larger, joint, interdisciplinary primary care faculty development program "Faculty Development in Primary Care" and sponsored by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). The program includes general academic pediatrics, medicine-pediatrics and internal medicine.

The joint fellowship program aims to create a new generation of primary care clinician research faculty. Fellows who complete the program will possess the experience, skills and knowledge to work effectively in interdisciplinary teams, address public health priorities, engage in culturally competent clinical practice and research and demonstrate leadership skills to translate results into policy.

This collaborative initiative arises from national, regional and local issues that affect the provision of health care to underserved and at-risk populations. The program also partners with the Center for Minority Health and the University, Community, Leaders and Individuals with Disabilities Center (UCLID) at the University of Pittsburgh. The interdisciplinary design of the program and settings provides a foundation for the integration of culturally competent community-centered research, primary care and leadership development.
