Overview
The Epilepsy Center of the University of Pittsburgh accepts up to one fellow
per year in Pediatric Neurophysiology with an emphasis on either Epilepsy/EEG
or EMG. This program is accredited through the University of Pittsburgh, and,
as such, allows for a one- or two-year combined adult and pediatric neurophysiology
experience. The two-year program provides opportunity for involvement in clinical
research in pediatric neurophysiology/epilepsy. Pre-requisites for entry into
this program include completion of a minimum of two years of an ACGME-accredited
residency program in pediatrics, completion of a three-year ACGME-accredited
residency program in child neurology, and documentation of completion of USMLE
and (if a foreign medical graduate) ECFMG examinations.
The Division of Child Neurology houses a comprehensive EEG laboratory that
provides outpatient, inpatient, and consultative services to Children’s
Hospital of Pittsburgh and Magee Women’s Hospital, a four-bed Epilepsy
Monitoring Unit that is in planning for expansion to six-beds, ambulatory monitoring
capability, several weekly epilepsy clinics, and an active and expanding epilepsy
surgery program.
