Researchers, Projects and Areas of Study

One measure of a research program’s success is the consistent support of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). In 2001, Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC was the 8th most-funded independent pediatric hospital, marking a decade as one of the top 10 pediatric research programs in the United States.

Currently, there are more than 170 basic research studies and clinical investigations under way at Children’s Hospital. From evaluating the delivery of local pediatric health care to using gene therapy and tissue engineering to cure diseases, the research varies but our researchers share the same goal — to improve the lives of children. Below are links to some of this research and the scientists who conduct it.
