Exhaled Carbon Monoxide as a Clinical Tool in Cystic Fibrosis (CF)

Levels of carbon monoxide (CO) gas in exhaled air could possibly be used as an indication of worsening of lung disease. Changes in CO over time might be even better than PFTs for showing the severity of lung, and continuing high levels of exhaled CO between lung infections may point out patients most at risk for quick declines in lung function. The purpose of this research is to study the relationship between exhaled carbon monoxide and other tests of lung disease in CF patients.

All study-related testing will be free of charge.

Candidates

  • Patients with cystic fibrosis and 6 years of age and older.
