Childhood Metabolic Markers Study
The purpose of this study is to determine why African-American children are at higher risk of being overweight and for developing Type 2 diabetes than are non-African-American children.
Compensation provided.
Candidates
- Healthy children, normal weight and overweight, African-American and Caucasian,
8 to 17 years of age - Child must not be taking any medication on a daily basis
Requirements
- Screening interview
- Study involves blood tests, exercise testing and breathing tests
Visits: two overnight stays at Children’s Hospital; possible return for additional overnight stay
