Cardiology Fellowship Didactic Lectures

Educational Program in Pediatric Cardiology

Fellows receive formal didactic instruction throughout the three years of training.  A core-curriculum has been developed, focusing on topics essential to pediatric cardiology.  A weekly fellows’ conference is dedicated to instruction.  All fellows are expected and required to attend.

Topics covered include (but are not limited to):

  • Cardiovascular physiology
  • Cardiac anatomy
  • Congenital cardiac lesions and their medical/surgical management
  • Electrophysiology
  • Echocardiography
  • Preventative cardiology
  • Transplantation

Further instruction is provided by:

  • Weekly cath conference in which the week’s cases are reviewed and discussed
  • Dedicated, bi-weekly fellows’ surgical symposium that is directed by the cardiothoracic surgeons
  • Bi-weekly pathology conference, in which pathological specimens are reviewed.

Additional conferences and resources include:

  • Twice weekly echo conference
  • Weekly surgical conference, prepared and presented by the fellows on a rotating basis
  • Weekly cardiopulmonary transplant conference
  • Monthly combined adult/pediatric cardiology conference in which cases of interest to both audiences are presented and discussed.
  • Monthly cardiology/CT surgery morbidity and mortality conference
  • A world-renowned Heart Museum which contains over 2,300 specimens representing a wide spectrum of congenital and acquired disease. Pathology conferences are held throughout the year with hands-on opportunity to examine the heart specimens.
