Likes About UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh: The people at Children's Hospital are what have made working here for the last 5 years wonderful!

I have always been drawn to roles that provided me opportunities to serve as an advocate. I completed my undergraduate degree in Biomedical Engineering at Tulane University and decided to pursue a career in medicine after volunteering as an EMT in post-Katrina New Orleans. Between undergrad and medical school at Tulane, I taught high school Math for two years as a part of the Teach for America program. I completed my pediatric residency training at the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh where I began to develop relationships with local advocacy organizations in the Pittsburgh community. It was important to me to have the opportunity to train in a fellowship program that would support my desire to serve as a physician advocate for the LGBTQ community and provide support for my interest in conducting community based participatory research. This is exactly what I found in the Adolescent Medicine Fellowship at Children's. As a fellow, I have been so appreciative of the program's commitment to providing me protected time to devote to expanding the Children's Gender Development Program and obtaining my Masters Degree in Clinic Research through the University of Pittsburgh ICRE.
