The Pediatric Pulmonology program will support and foster your research experience.
In the first year, you are given the opportunity to explore different laboratories to identify appropriate mentors and research projects.
In the second and third year of fellowship, priority is given to the fellow to have protected time to accomplish their research.
You will have a Scholarly Oversight Committee (SOC) which will meet twice a year with you to provide guidance for your research. You will have choices in either clinical or basic science fields within our division or even in other departments at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.
One of our goals is to support you in obtaining a meaningful research product (at least one original research publication) and we have an excellent track record for achieving this. A highlight of our program is the T32 Research Training Grant in Pediatric Pulmonary Medicine. This formal 2-year program is designed to prepare trainees for a career in clinical, translational, or basic science research in an academic environment. Eligible, highly-qualified candidates would complete the program during their second and third years of fellowship. Program cores include biostatistics and epidemiology, genetics and epigenetics, and immunology. The T32 program includes a diverse faculty with interest and expertise in virtually all aspects of pulmonary research, including diseases such as asthma, cystic fibrosis, and acute lung injury. Additionally, there is the possibility of obtaining a Masters in clinical research which is built into the three-year fellowship program.
Please see the Achievements and Awards page for our fellows’ research accomplishments.
