Clinical Training

Centered at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC and with close ties to the Adult Pulmonary/Critical Care Program at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, the fellowship offers fellows a wide breadth of clinical experience because the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh is the major tertiary pediatric facility in a region that includes western Pennsylvania, southeast Ohio, western Maryland and West Virginia.

You will gain excellent skills and comfort in all areas (both the common and rarer disease types) of clinical pulmonology, several which are highlighted here:

  • Inpatient Pulmonary consult service
  • Continuity clinics with your own patient panel in your second and third years of training
  • Flexible bronchoscopy service (you will perform at least 70 bronchoscopies in your first year of fellowship)
  • Antonio J. and Janet Palumbo Cystic Fibrosis Center
  • A cutting-edge Asthma Center (including a Difficult to Treat Asthma clinic in collaboration with our allergists)
  • Complete pulmonary function laboratory with exercise physiology laboratory and infant PFT
  • Care for patients with lung transplantation including our Lung Transplant Clinic
  • Multidisciplinary comprehensive Pediatric Sleep Evaluation Center (with 8 bed sleep laboratory and outpatient sleep clinic) particularly in Sleep Fellowship Training.
  • Elective time
