Hometown: Big Bend, WI

College/Medical School: University of Wisconsin-Madison (BS Biochemistry, Chemistry, and Spanish)/Vanderbilt University (MD, PhD Molecular Physiology and Biophysics)

Hobbies/Interests: Doing anything food-related with my wife Kelly (eating food at new restaurants, cooking food at home, growing food in our garden), running with my dog Brandy, cuddling with my other dog Maxwell, and playing soccer with friends

Travels/Languages: I have not traveled to enough places and am looking forward to new travels to faraway places as soon as we are able. I am capable of conversing in Spanish with lots of hand motions.

An Interesting Fact About Yourself: I come from a family with five kids and somehow am crazy enough to want to have a big family myself!

Why Did You Choose UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh: My wife Kelly and I did simultaneous interviews for palliative care fellowship and pediatrics residency – UPMC CHP was a perfect match for both of us! Our main positive factors were the strong research infrastructure, the excellent clinical training, and the great emphasis hospital leadership places on development of trainees into faculty.
