Pediatric Residencies Clinical Programs & Opportunities

Welcome to the website of the Pediatric Residency Program at UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. We hope you will learn a great deal about our residency program, the people we work with, and our great city.

The training here is comprehensive, robust and responsive to individual learning goals and needs. Immersion in the clinical experience with mentoring at the bedside and the opportunity to make independent decisions is the primary learning modality, complemented by formal didactics, small group discussions and individualized, self-directed learning. You will work with outstanding residents, faculty, and an entire health care team focused on providing family-centered and high-quality care to all of the children and families we serve.

Mentoring is a key focus of our residency program. Interns are connected with an initial advisor soon after they match to start the process of mentoring well before arriving at the hospital the first day. Faculty are paired with interns based specifically on their career interests along with personal preferences of the new intern. Interns are mentored from the beginning of training with a focus on their individual specific needs for career development. Our program is designed to help new interns who have a clear idea of their career path as well as those still in the process of discovering their future in pediatrics. The mentoring program encompasses the full span of residency training at Children’s, with a focus on the successful career development of the individual future pediatrician.
