About Your First Visit

Here is what will happen during your first visit to the Pediatric Brachial Plexus Clinic. The family will meet the team of specialists. Then, a detailed birth history will be taken.

Following the history, the team will examine and play with the baby or child to get a sense for the injury. Together, they will assess the child during a single exam. After the exam, we will discuss the cause and prognosis of birth brachial plexus injury, and then the team’s thoughts about your child’s prognosis. At that time we will discuss the need for further tests and/or procedures, and we will set up a follow-up appointment.

What should you bring to your first visit?
In order to help your first visit to the Pediatric Brachial Plexus Clinic be as helpful as possible, you should bring:

  • any notes from other health care providers
  • any imaging or studies that have been done at another facility

Please dress the child in easy-to-remove clothing. The team will need to examine both of his or her arms.
