Biography Summary

Kristin Hannibal, MD, is an assistant professor of Pediatrics at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. She currently is the clinical director of the Primary Care Center and a member of the Division of General Academic Pediatrics at the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC. She also is a developmental-behavioral pediatrician with the Division of Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics/Child Development Unit, also at Children's Hospital. Dr. Hannibal joined Children's in 2000 as a clinical instructor of Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School.

Dr. Hannibal was awarded a bachelor of arts in chemistry from Miami University, Oxford, Ohio, in 1979. She earned her medical degree at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine in 1983. Dr. Hannibal then completed her pediatric internship and residency at Children's Hospital Medical Center, Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1986. Following two years as a community pediatrician in Crestview, Ky., she then completed a fellowship in ambulatory pediatrics at Children's Hospital of Boston in Massachusetts in1990. She then joined the pediatrics department at Harvard University Health Services in Cambridge, Mass. From 1995 to 2000, Dr. Hannibal served as assistant chief of pediatrics. She also had a joint appointment at Harvard Medical School as a clinical instructor from 1990-2000.

Dr. Hannibal is the clinical director of the Primary Care Center and serves as the Division of General Academic Pediatrics' liaison to the newborn nursery rotation at Magee Womens Hospital. In addition she is a faculty member who attends in the Child Development Unit, evaluating infants and toddlers, and participating in the ongoing teaching mission of students, residents and fellows. She also remains active in the clinical activities and teaching of residents and faculty in the Primary Care Center on a variety of developmental-behavioral pediatric topics such as developmental screening, ADHD and autism. As a developmental-behavioral pediatrician, she serves on the Preemie Health Coalition, a national organization promoting the health and well-being of the premature infant.

Dr. Hannibal is board-certified in pediatrics and developmental-behavioral pediatrics. She is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine, the Society for Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics and the Ambulatory Pediatric Association.
