Patient's First Visit

The Radiation Oncology team is made up of skilled doctors, nurses, physicists, dosimetrists, and therapists who plan and provide comprehensive treatment, responsive to each patient’s needs. You will need to bring or have your referring doctor send the following information prior to your initial appointment:

medical records
list of medications you are currently taking
laboratory reports
x-ray films and reports
scan (CT, MRI, bone) films and reports
pathology report and slides
list of your doctors’ names and contact information

It is also important to bring your insurance information. Financial counselors and billing staff are available to answer any questions you may have about insurance coverage.

During your first visit, you will meet your nurse and doctor. They will review your x-rays and conduct an examination. Next, your doctor will explain radiation therapy, what to expect, and why it is recommended. A parent or guardian must sign a consent form granting permission for treatment to begin. The Radiation Oncology team will then develop a specialized treatment plan to meet both the physical and emotional needs of the patient. Plan to spend one to two hours during your first visit.
