Pediatric Heart and Lung Transplant Program

Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC performed its first pediatric heart transplant in 1982. Since then, the Heart Institute's transplant teams have expanded the cardiopulmonary transplant program to include heart-liver, heart-kidney, heart-lung, and double- and singe-lung transplantation.

Children's Pediatric Heart and Lung Transplantation program has performed:
 
  • the world's first successful pediatric heart-liver transplant in 1984
  • the world's first successful pediatric heat-lung transplant in 1985
  • more pediatric heart-lung transplants than any other center in the country
