Just for Teens
Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC recognizes that teenagers may have special needs. Out of respect for their growing independence, teens are granted special privileges not available to younger patients.
The following is a summary of special guidelines just for teens:
- Friends are encouraged to visit except during school hours. Refer the hospital’s visiting guidelines. All visitors under 18 years old must be accompanied by an adult. Patient areas are secured; visitors need an access card to enter.
- The Teen Lounge, on 9a, is open from 9:30 a.m.–11 p.m. Teens are welcome to hang out in the lounge, socialize and get to know their peers. Supervised activities including art projects, movie night, group games and special visitors take place in the Teen Lounge.
- Teens on units other than 9a must have their nurse’s approval to visit the lounge and must be accompanied by a staff member or other adult.
