No. Whether you are interested in working as a Neurodiagnostic Technician, Monitoring Technician, or any other clinician or nurse within the department, pediatric experience is not required. You are given extensive training and tools to make the transition to pediatrics as smooth as possible. Pediatric experience as imagined is always preferred, but not required.
No. It is a common misconception that by working at Children's Hospital, you are constantly surrounded by critically ill children. This is not the case. Certainly, assisting sick kids will be a very important part of your job, but you will also assist children who are not in critical danger and simply need normal diagnostic testing and treatment.
As an employee of the Epilepsy Center or EEG lab, you will have the opportunity to work with state-of-the art diagnostic equipment and procedures. You will be surrounded by a team of individuals dedicated to the care of the children and the support of their families. You also will be exposed to learning and educational opportunities while working with many of the departments throughout the hospital.
We recognize the importance of a positive work-life balance for every employee. Every consideration is given to balancing lifestyles and the operational needs of the department.
We maintain a child friendly environment with a focus on family-centered care. You can expect to work within the Epilepsy Center, EEG Lab, Operating Room, and Emergency Department. All employees within all areas of the hospital function as a team to support one another to meet the needs of the children and their families.
Children’s Hospital is dedicated to maintaining its status as one of the top pediatric hospitals in the nation. Our commitment to education is an important step toward achieving that goal. Our clinicians remain skilled in all of the cutting-edge technology as it becomes available. We are always striving for growth and improvement in our services. Unique to the Neurodiagnostics group at Children’s is our student training program. This serves as a progressive on-the-job training available to all internal Children’s Hospital and UPMC staff.
