Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh Names New Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer

Diane Hupp, RN, MSN, named Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer

Diane Hupp, RN, MSN, will take on the position of vice president and chief nursing officer at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh.

Hupp has served as interim vice president and chief nursing officer since November 2005.

Hupp began her career at Children's in May 1986 as a child care assistant and became a professional staff nurse in May 1987. For the next 14 years, Hupp held a variety of nursing positions, as well as management positions, overseeing medical and surgical patient units and outpatient medical departments.

In January 2001, Hupp became the director of Peri-Operative Services. Under her leadership, Children's surgical cases increased by 30 percent, from 15,600 cases in fiscal year 2001 to 20,300 cases in fiscal year 2006. Working closely with physician leaders from anesthesiology and other surgical subspecialties, Hupp has been the catalyst for significant advancements in surgical technology, supply chain management, operating room efficiency and patient safety.

"Diane started her nursing career at Children's two decades ago and has advanced through virtually every nursing role, making her ideal for this position," said Roger A. Oxendale, president and CEO. "Her talents and her passion for helping children and families have been a tremendous asset to Children's. Diane's leadership and experience will further strengthen our Nursing Division."

Hupp earned a bachelor's degree in nursing and a master's degree in nursing administration from Duquesne University. In addition to her roles at Children's, Hupp has also written many articles for nursing journals and has given numerous educational lectures.
