Research Interests

The focus of my research has been generally within the fields of clinical renal and pancreatic transplantation, and more specifically, with the development and optimization of immunosuppressive protocols.  We have conducted a number of randomized clinical trials to demonstrate the efficacy of tacrolimus-based immunosuppression, and have helped develop the agent for use in clinical renal and pancreatic transplantation.  More recently, we have focused on strategies to minimize immunosuppression after transplantation.

Additional interests include analysis of adverse events related to immunosuppression, including post-transplant diabetes mellitus and viral infections, including cytomegalovirus, Epstein-Barr virus, and BK virus.  Finally, a significant part of my academic interest has involved the publication of comprehensive textbooks, including an Atlas of Organ Transplantation, a textbook on Renal Transplantation, and a textbook on Pancreatic Transplantation.
