The Write Power

The Write Power is an innovative program designed to teach school-aged children how to use written language skills to effectively express their thoughts and ideas. A licensed speech-language pathologist will act as the child’s personal writing coach. Team members will be engaged in a language-rich environment in which they will be given the tools to aid in planning, organizing, drafting, revising, and editing written language.

Who should participate?

School-aged children ages 8–13 who have difficulties with written expression and are interested in learning techniques to better gather and organize information in a written format should participate in this program.

What will they learn?

  • Enthusiasm about writing
  • Confidence in their writing abilities
  • How to identify, gather, and generate ideas for writing
  • How to develop content appropriate for the topic
  • How to organize ideas in a logical order
  • How to generate sentences with correct word order
  • How to create paragraphs that flow

The program will be held at:

  • Children’s South Communications Disorders, located at 1500 Oxford Drive, Bethel Park, PA 15102

When are the sessions?

Sessions will be one hour in length and held twice a week for six consecutive weeks.

How do I get more information?

Contact the Department of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology at 412-692-5580. An evaluation will be conducted by a speech-language pathologist prior to the start of the program.
