Dining and Snack Options

UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh Food Services department provides meals and specialized formula to meet the individual needs of inpatients. Upon admission, your child will be introduced to the meal program and how it works. Patients may order meals daily from 7 a.m.–8 p.m. They may order anything they like, as long as it is within their diet order. The Nutrition Operator in the call center will be able to assist each patient. If a patient is unable to order his or her meals, a parent, caregiver, nurse or Nutrition Services representative may assist. Meals will be delivered within 45 minutes of ordering.

  • Should you need anything during meal times, contact the call center at 864-9700.
  • For late admissions or patients returning from a late procedure, a limited menu is available from 8 p.m.–midnight. To place orders from the late menu contact your nursing station.
  • Parents may contact Food and Nutrition Services at 864-9700.

If your child has special dietary needs, including food allergies, please inform your nurse upon admission.

Dining With Your Child

Parents may eat with their child by ordering a guest tray.

  • You must first purchase a guest tray voucher in the Cafeteria, Floor 3.
  • Place your order by calling 864-9700 and speaking with a nutrition operator.
  • Your order will arrive within 45 minutes. Upon arrival, give voucher to the wait staff associate.
  • Each acute care unit has a family pantry that features a microwave oven and a refrigerator. Please label food and drink stored in the refrigerator with your name and the date.
  • For breastfeeding mothers, cafeteria meal tickets are available at the nursing station. Tickets can be used in the Cafeteria, Moose on the Loose Café, and by contacting 864-9700. Takeout containers are available so mothers can return to their children’s rooms to eat. Please obtain a new ticket for each meal.
  • For families requiring meal assistance, please contact the Office of Clinical Social Work at 412-692-5255.


Silver Plate for Sustainable Pittsburgh RestaurantThe cafeteria is located in the main hospital, Floor 3, and serves a variety of food choices. These choices range from convenient grab-and-go salads and sandwiches, to hot and delicious home-cooked entrees, specialty deli sandwiches, pizza by the slice, full selection of grilled offerings, and fresh made sushi.


  • Breakfast: 6:30 – 10 a.m.
  • Grab and Go: 10 – 10:30 a.m.
  • Closed: 10:30 – 11 a.m.
  • Lunch: 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.
  • Dinner: 3 p.m. – Midnight

Pop Stop Snack Bar

The Pop Stop Snack Bar at UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh is located in the main hospital, Floor 3b. We feature an extensive menu, including gourmet coffees, pastries, sandwiches, salads, desserts and more.

Call the Pop Stop menu line at 412-692-7720, after 9 a.m. Monday through Friday, for daily special, soup of the day, cookies of the day and salad of the week information. To place an order call 412-692-7680 during business hours.

Credit cards are accepted for phone orders only. Gift certificates ($5, $10, $20) are available for purchase.

Starbucks is located in the main lobby on the first floor of the hospital, adjacent to the gift shop. This location is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for the convenience and enjoyment of patients, families, visitors, and employees. Sit down or grab-and-go items are available, including Starbucks signature freshly brewed coffee, a wide range of beverages, sandwiches, salads, snacks, and more.

Vending Machines

Vending machines are available 24 hours a day and are located on Floor 3, adjacent to the Emergency Department; Floors 2, 3, and 4 in the surgery waiting room and the CICU; in the PICU on Floor 5; and on Floor 6 in the Family Lounge.
