Center for Adolescent Reward, Rhythm and Sleep (CARRS)

Protocol Description

Sleep for Science! 13-15 year-olds are needed to participate in a study about how sleep timing affects teens' mood and behavior.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Age 13-15 years
  • Currently enrolled in traditional high school (not cyber- or home-schooled) [school closures during the COVID-19 pandemic are an exception]
  • Physically and psychiatrically healthy
  • Must provide consent (parent of teen) and assent (teen)

Requirements

  • Consent/intake visit (up to 4 hours, includes clinical assessments and questionnaires for eligibility)
  • 2 week home study (wear an Actiwatch to monitor sleep and activity, answer short questionnaire twice/day)
  • One visit for fMRI scan
  • One 60-hour overnight lab stay in the Sleep and Behavioral Neuroscience Center (SBNC). This lab stay includes a 36 hour constant routine protocol
  • Twice/year follow-up questionnaires through the life of the grant
