Vitamin D and Asthma

Vit-D-Kids Asthma Study LogoBoy with asthma using an inhalerDr. Celedón’s Lab first showed that vitamin D insufficiency – levels lower than 30 ng/ml – is associated with severe asthma attacks in school-aged children. The researchers then replicated and expand on these results in other studies of children living in different geographic regions of the world. Those findings served as preliminary data for a National Institutes of Health-funded clinical trial of vitamin D supplementation to prevent severe asthma attacks in children, which is currently being conducted in four U.S. cities.
