PITTSBURGH, PA - February 4, 2013 - Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC has been named one of the 10 Best Children's Hospitals in the country by Parents magazine. Children's Hospital is ranked 6th on the list, which was released today.

Parents will publish the 10 Best Hospitals list  in its March 2013 issue, which will be on newsstands nationwide on Feb. 12, as well as online at parents.com.

In addition to ranking 6th overall, Children's ranked 6th in emergency care and 9th in pulmonary care.

"Children's is proud to be recognized again as one of the leading pediatric hospitals in the country. In compiling this list,Parents focused on clinical success, research and family-centered care, all of which are the foundation of our approach to being a world leader in pediatric health care," said Christopher Gessner, president, Children's Hospital.

The list provides the most comprehensive family-focused, data-driven comparison of pediatric facilities. Parents survey focused on key areas including treatment success, groundbreaking research and family-friendly facilities.

The 10 Best Hospitals were ranked by Parents editors with input from a team of medical advisors based on their responses to detailed questions in the following areas: survival rates for childhood cancer, pediatric heart disease, and other critical conditions; experience in performing certain complex procedures; depth of the research program; safeguards to prevent medical errors; staffing ratios and quality; community outreach; and services that address the emotional needs of patients' families. All surveyed hospitals are members of the National Association of Children's Hospitals and Related Institutions.

"Making an informed decision about your child's health care can be overwhelming, especially in the face of a serious illness," says Dana Points, editor-in-chief of Parents. "We created this guide with the hope of making it easier to find a great hospital when you need one the most."
