Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation will host the first-ever Walk for Children’s celebrating the culmination of the 125th anniversary year of Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC.
The 5K walk, which will kick off with a patient champion parade, will take place on Saturday, June 4, at Flagstaff Hill in Schenley Park.
Children’s Hospital is inviting patients and families past and present, corporate teams and community members to support the patients at Children’s by registering for Walk for Children’s. Participants can start their own teams or join existing teams and encourage others to donate to Children’s on their behalf up until the June 4 walk.
“Walk for Children’s is a new event for us that really rallies our community of supporters together in a mission that Pittsburgh has embraced—to make this treasure, Children’s Hospital, a safe place of hope and healing for all kids, said Greg Barrett, president, Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation. “This is a great way for individuals, families, organizations and corporations to come together and walk for the kids in our region and beyond who rely on Children’s for expert pediatric care.”
Walk co-chairs are Scott Lammie, chief financial officer, UPMC Health Plan, and Morgan O'Brien, chief executive officer, Peoples Natural Gas.
“We are proud to join with other sponsors for this first-ever event that will encourage all ages in the Pittsburgh community to take healthy steps and to become more active and fit while supporting the patients and families at Children’s Hospital,” said Scott Lammie.
Children’s Hospital began its 125th celebration with a kickoff celebration on June 4, 2015 that launched the “Give Kids a Chance to be Kids” campaign. The campaign featured an interactive mobile story booth, called the “Giving Booth,” that traveled to special events throughout the region.
In early October, Children’s held a black-tie gala celebrating the 125th anniversary.
