PITTSBURGH, PA - August 21, 2012 - Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC this week opened a new specialty care center in Erie to improve access to pediatric subspecialty care for families in the tri-state region.
Children’s Hospital Specialty Care Center Erie is located on the second floor of Shriners Hospitals for Children®, with which Children’s already collaborates to offer pediatric orthopaedic care. The center enables area families to receive expert subspecialty medical care for their children in Erie instead of having to travel to Pittsburgh.

With the opening of this new center, pediatric subspecialists from Children’s will travel to Erie on a regular basis to see children for routine office visits, screenings, and follow-up care. The specialty care center will be under the direction of Children’s Hospital physicians and staff, and operate independently from the Shriners facility.
“The Erie community has embraced our decision to bring pediatric subspecialty care to the area especially for families in need of more complex care,” said Kathy Guatteri, vice president, Outpatient Services at Children’s Hospital. “Children’s new specialty care center will allow families from the Erie region to receive expert subspecialty medical care for their children that is among the best in the world without having to leave their community and travel long distances.”
In addition to Children’s Hospital Specialty Care Center Erie, Children’s operates four other specialty care centers in Chippewa, Hermitage, Johnstown, and Wheeling.
