The 10th Annual DVE Rocks for Children’s Radiothon raised a record-breaking $814,000 in support of Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC. The two-day radiothon, broadcast live from Children’s on Sept. 28 and 29, pushed the total amount raised over 10 years past the $5 million mark.
The Radiothon raises vital funds that enable Children’s Hospital to provide the highest level of care to each patient when they need it most.
“The generosity and sense of community displayed by thousands and thousands of DVE listeners is truly awe-inspiring,” said Greg Barrett, president, Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation. “Every year, this loyal group of supporters, who have truly become Rocks Stars for Children’s, amazes us with their passion for improving the well-being of kids from this region. Our community is what makes Children’s special, and gives our kids a chance to be kids.”
The 102.5 WDVE on-air personalities, including Randy Baumann & the 'DVE Morning Show, which includes Bill Crawford, Val Porter, and Mike Prisuta, as well as Michele Michaels, and Sean McDowell, all broadcast stories from patients, families, and staff live from Children’s Hospital during the two-day radiothon.
“The DVE Rocks for Children’s Radiothon continues to exceed our expectations,” said Tim McAleer, Market President for iHeartMedia Pittsburgh-West Virginia. “WDVE has terrific listeners in the Pittsburgh community who rally for the kids, and I am in awe of the DVE talent with their dedication and effort they put forth, which is reflected by this year’s record setting donations.”
Also, special guests at the event included former Pittsburgh Steelers kicker Shaun Suisham and former Pittsburgh Penguins player, Colby Armstrong. Colby and Shaun supported the Radiothon by answering phones. In addition, Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, comedian Billy Gardell, and WWE chief brand officer, Stephanie McMahon, all made donations by phone.
There was also a special challenge hour which included former members of the Pittsburgh Steelers including, Brett Keisel, Heath Miller, Jerome Bettis, and Steelers owner, Art Rooney II.
The radiothon featured live performances from Scott Blasey of The Clarks, Paul Luc, Josh and Gab, and Clinton Clegg from the Commonheart.
New to this year’s radiothon was special promotional donor hours from each of the sister stations at iHeart, including Big 104.7, 3WS, 96.1 KISS, and 105.9 The X.
Last year’s radiothon raised $605,000.
