December 16, 2013

PITTSBURGH, PA - December 16, 2013 - Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC announced today that it has become the exclusive pediatric provider of a second opinion service for MDLIVE, the nation's leading telehealth provider of online and on-demand health care delivery services and software.

MDLIVE's network of more than 3 million members across the United States who have a child dealing with a pediatric illness or disease will have round-the-clock access to Children's Hospital experts for a medical second opinion.

"This partnership with MDLIVE is a testament to Children's Hospital's strong national reputation as a leading provider of pediatric care, and we look forward to the opportunity to provide a valuable second opinion service to the families who rely on MDLIVE," said Harun Rashid, vice president, Global Health Services, and chief information officer, Children's Hospital.

MDLIVE's online technology platform will provide consumers the timely care and accessibility to a pediatric second opinion to get the best patient outcome. Obtaining second opinions can decrease medical errors, save lives and reduce health care costs by preventing unnecessary surgeries and procedures.

Children's experts will offer their second opinion for families of pediatric patients who have received a first opinion from their primary care physician and would like confirmation that the diagnosis or treatment plan that is recommended is the best option.

"As the leading telehealth provider in the nation, we are pleased to partner with one of the top 10 Children's Hospitals in the nation," said Randy Parker, chief executive officer of MDLIVE. "We are proud to work with Children's Hospital and look forward to a relationship that will offer our members better outcomes in a cost-effective way."
