Children's North

In the outpatient clinical care centers at UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh – and at the hospital in general – we continuously focus on family-centered care in order to provide an optimal experience for patients and their families.

To assist in providing family-centered care during outpatient visits, a certified child life specialist (CCLS) will focus on preparation, language, distraction, parental involvement, and teaching approaches prior to and during a child’s test/procedure. The CCLS’ role is to help children and their families cope with the anxiety and fear associated with their visit.

A CCLS can be used as a resource for parents prior to their child’s procedure and also for feedback once the procedure has been completed. The CCLS can also serve as an educator for staff members as well as other health care professionals in the community. The overall goal of the Child Life Department is to enhance emotional, social, and cognitive growth among pediatric patients during medical experiences.

Imaging Services at Children’s North are performed by Children’s’ Department of Pediatric Radiology. The pediatric radiologists, pediatric nurses, technologists and physician assistants are the same specialists who perform radiologic studies at our main campus in Lawrenceville. These pediatric-trained specialists are particularly skilled at tailoring procedures to the pediatric patient. Imaging services available at this location are:

Monday to Friday: 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. (Closed: 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.)

Saturday: 12 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Sunday: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

All other services (fluoroscopy or ultrasound) are by appointment only. To schedule a Radiology procedure call 412-692-5500.

UPMC Children’s blood draw services are convenient with Save My Spot. Simply the time you want to arrive at Children’s North. We’ll then save your spot in line. You will receive an email and text alert with your selected time. When you arrive, please check in with the front desk staff. Times are approximate and not guaranteed.

It is your responsibility to check with your insurance provider to evaluate your coverage prior to having your child's labs drawn.
