Orthopaedic traumas vary in severity. When you first notice your child's injury, you will want to assess how bad it is.
If you notice either of the following, take your child to the Emergency Department (ED) for their injury:
If either is the case, have your child stop eating and drinking. Then go to the nearest ED right away.
The ED at UPMC Children's Hospital is on the first floor at 4401 Penn Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15224. A member of the pediatric orthopaedic trauma team is always on call and ready to help your child feel better.

If these options aren't open and it can't wait until the next day, you can always come to the ED at Children's.
We work closely with many other UPMC hospitals and EDs who can call us for advice if needed. But, for the best orthopaedic care for your child, teen, or young adult, we suggest coming directly to a Children's facility.
You can also make a clinic appointment with a pediatric orthopaedic trauma expert. We aim to get you in the day you call with the expert best suited to treat your child's injury.
The speediest appointment with the best fit for your child's injury will often be in the orthopaedic office. We suggest trying to manage minor, non-urgent injuries at home and calling us the next business day. Your child's primary care provider (PCP) may also refer you to us.
