Neocritical Care Research

When you lead in research, breakthroughs follow.

In 2010, our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit received more than $11 million in grant funding for clinical and scientific research, and our Pediatric Neurocritical Care Unit in combination with the Safar Center for Resuscitation Research has one of the largest academic and grant-related programs in the country, and is considered the world leader in the field of Pediatric Brain Injury. Current areas of research include:

  • How infections can alter brain development in an intensive care unit
  • How times of day affect the likelihood of certain injuries
  • Hypothermia or cooling therapy trials for babies, infants and children with HIE (hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy)
  • Novel therapies for traumatic and ischemic brain injury
  • Transformative methods to monitor the injured brain
