Your First Visit to the Division of Pediatric Rheumatology

Please arrive at our registration desk at least 30 minutes before your scheduled appointment. Please leave yourself enough time for parking and walking to the office. If you arrive late it may be necessary to see your child at the end of the clinic schedule or possibly on another day.

Your consideration will allow our physicians to maximize the time spent with you and your family. Evaluations are detailed and can’t be rushed. Please be aware that you may be meeting with a fellow and/or a resident prior to your visit with the scheduled attending physician, as we are a teaching facility.

Before you come to Children’s for your first Rheumatology appointment:

Please bring with you the complete name, address and telephone number of the primary care physician and/or referring physician.

Insurance co-payments are due at registration. For your convenience, cash, personal checks and credit cards are accepted. Most insurance companies list the co-payment on the insurance card.

Call the primary care physician to make sure the referral form/process has been completed and that all requested copies of medical records have been submitted.

  1. If your child has had X-rays, bring the films to the appointment.
  2. Bring games, toys and a light snack to occupy your child. The appointment may take up to two hours.
  3. If your child prefers not to wear a hospital gown, bring shorts and a T-shirt to wear during the exam.
  4. Two days’ notice is requested for cancellation of a scheduled appointment.
