Camp Chihopi will be held from Thursday, August 10 to Sunday, August 13, 2023 at the Emma Kauffman Camp (EKC) in Morgantown, West Virginia. COVID-19 vaccines are not required this year by the EKC management. Depending on the prevalence of the virus this summer, COVID-19 testing may be done during registration on August 10 to ensure that everyone is healthy before leaving for camp.
Camp Chihopi is a summer camping experience for children ages 7 to 15 who have received liver transplants and/or intestine transplants. Each year, campers enjoy the beautiful surrounds of the Emma Kaufmann Camp, located 90 miles south of Pittsburgh near Morgantown, West Virginia.
During this summer camping event, campers are encouraged to make new friends, share their experiences, and participate in a variety of outdoor camp activities to the best of their abilities.
Camp Chihopi provides a non-medical environment where campers can increase self-esteem and interact with children who have similar medical backgrounds. The camp aims to help children continue to adapt to their chronic condition as a transplant recipient as they mature into young adults.
