Hospital-Acquired Conditions

According to the United States Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, 132 out of 1,000 hospital patients experience a hospital-acquired condition (HAC).

At UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, we’re dedicated to doing everything possible to prevent hospital acquired conditions. We partner with children’s hospitals across the country to share ideas, track progress, and promote awareness through the pediatric initiative Solutions for Patient Safety.

• At UPMC Children’s, hospital acquired conditions are closely monitored. These hospital acquired conditions include:
• Surgical Site Infection (SSI)
• Central Line Associated Blood Stream Infection (CLABSI)
• Cather Associated Urinary Tract Infection (CAUTI)
• Adverse Drug Event (ADE)
• Ventilator Associated Pneumonia (VAP)
• Falls
• Pressure Injury
