Compensation Package

As part of a total compensation package, the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) and its affiliates offer a variety of benefit options for employees and their eligible dependents. These benefits are designed to provide personal security, convenience and assistance to you and your family. Our goal is to offer flexibility and choices so that our employees can decide which options best meet their needs.

  • Competitive pay rates
  • Paid-Time-Off (PTO) advance: UPMC offers pharmacists advance PTO based upon total years of relevant experience. A total of 40 hours is given to pharmacists with at least one year, but fewer than five years of relevant work experience; 80 hours are given to pharmacists with at least five years, but fewer than 15 years of relevant work experience; and 120 hours are given to pharmacists with at least 15 years or more of relevant work experience. Pharmacists must fulfill a one-year work commitment. Regular PTO accrues at 5.42 hours per pay on top of the advance PTO.
  • Tuition forgiveness: Loan forgiveness may be offered if the candidate enrolls in a residency program within one year of graduating with his or her PharmD degree. New graduates can receive $6,000–$11,000 in loan forgiveness based on a sliding scale to accommodate commitments at various time periods of enrollment:
    • $11,000 (enroll five months to one year prior to graduation)
    • $10,000 (enroll four months prior to graduation)
    • $9,000 (enroll three months prior to graduation)
    • $8,000 (enroll two months prior to graduation)
    • $7,000 (enroll one month prior to graduation)
    • $6,000 (enroll post-graduation)
  • Relocation packages

Eligibility for benefits

Most benefits are effective the first of the month following the date of hire. Staffing classification, such as full-time or part-time, and work location determine eligibility and availability of the plans in which you can participate. Staff covered by collective bargaining agreements and some physicians may not be covered by all the benefits listed here. Some benefits are not available at all UPMC locations. A Human Resources representative can provide specific details.
