Director's Message

These are exciting times for the Pharmacy Department at UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. The staff is larger than ever before and is providing more innovative services to meet the needs of our pediatric population.

UPMC Children’s Pharmacy is leading the world in many patient safety initiatives, including electronic physician order entry. This provides us with clear orders, with drug-drug and drug-allergy alerts, for both the pharmacists and physicians. Although technology such as this is truly improving patient care, UPMC Children’s best resources are our employees. We continue to be successful in recruiting bright and enthusiastic individuals who are making a difference in the lives of our kids. Our employees come from a variety of backgrounds, including the retail pharmacy setting. We have been very successful in developing retail pharmacists into successful pediatric clinicians. This is done by providing extensive training and allowing staff sufficient time to familiarize themselves with the concepts of pediatric medicine. Employees join our team with different skill sets, which gives us the opportunity to tailor training to meet individual needs.
