UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh is home to the Pediatric Clinical and Translational Research Center (PCTRC), a unique multidisciplinary setting that provides physicians the opportunity to investigate childhood diseases in a controlled environment in both an inpatient and outpatient basis.
It is one of only a handful of centers in the nation that is funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and devoted to pediatric research. It achieved this distinction in 2006 when the University of Pittsburgh was selected as part of the charter group of 12 institutions to form NIH’s Clinical and Translational Research Consortium.
The PCTRC’s roots reach far deeper, as it is based on Children’s former General Clinical Research Center, or GCRC – itself a model institution established in 1962, supporting research for 58 years with a staff of physicians, nurses and other health care professionals dedicated to supporting children and families participating in research initiatives.
The PCTRC has facilities capable of accommodating both inpatient and outpatient settings. It is sponsored by the National Institutes of Health, National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences.
The PCTRC is located on Floor 3 of the Administrative Office Building at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC, accessible via the pedestrian bridge from Floor 3 of the main hospital building.
