For Youth and Young Adults

The Division of Adolescent and Young Adult Medicine is staffed by doctors, nurse practitioners, and nurses and support staff who love to work with teens and young adults. A few times weekly, we even have a nutrition clinic, a mental health clinic, and a doctor from UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital.

We provide confidential services for most issues including:

  • Sexuality
  • Pregnancy testing
  • Sexually transmitted infection (STI) testing and treatment
  • Birth control
  • Substance use
  • Mental health
  • Questions you may have about your body

Confidential means that we respect your privacy and that you do not need to have a parent present to receive care from us for these issues. If we are concerned about your safety, however, we will work with you to ensure that you are safe.

We have offices in Oakland, Lawrenceville, Wexford (Children's Pine Center), and Bridgeville (Children's South). Check out all of our neighborhood locations.

We accept most insurances.  For confidential visits, we are often able to see you at no cost to you.

Primary Care

This means we provide you with a “medical home.” You can come here for your physicals and care for health problems you are having. We can also see you for all the issues listed under “consults.” If a problem is beyond what we can handle here, we will find the right specialist for you to see.

Consults

We also see young people for adolescent issues that their doctor’s office may not deal with. The kinds of things we consult for are:

  • Pregnancy testing
  • Birth control
  • Sexually transmitted infection (STI) testing and treatment
  • Sexuality issues
  • Gender identity concerns
  • Menstrual problems of all kinds
  • Hormone problems
  • Eating disorders

Research

We participate in research studies too — you may be eligible to participate and help us learn how to improve the health of young people like yourself!
