Drue Heinz British Pediatric Fellowship Program

At Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC, we are committed to supporting the professional and educational needs of clinicians, educators, investigators, administrators, and other health care professionals. The Drue Heinz British Pediatric Fellowship Program offers the unique opportunity to travel abroad to pursue avenues of collaboration with British health care professionals at several leading pediatric facilities throughout Great Britain.

The program was launched in 1995 by the British Consulate General, New York, as the British government’s way of publicly thanking Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC and its staff for the care that was provided to Laura Davies. Laura was a child from Manchester, England, who died in 1993 after twice receiving organ transplants at Children’s Hospital. The objective of the exchange is to develop collegial relationships between health care professionals from Britain and from Children’s and to allow participants to share knowledge through participation and study at each other’s health care facilities.

This fellowship allows individuals from Children’s to spend up to three months of study and teaching at Manchester and other children’s hospitals in Britain. The Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital Pediatric Fellowship, funded by a grant from the Laura Davies Trust Fund and now administered by Salford and Trafford Health Authority, allows individuals from The Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital to spend up to three months "in residence" at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC.
