This program is accredited through the University of Pittsburgh, and, as such, allows for a one- or two-year combined adult and pediatric neurophysiology experience. The two-year program provides opportunity for involvement in clinical research in pediatric neurophysiology/epilepsy. Pre-requisites for entry into this program include completion of a minimum of two years of an ACGME-accredited residency program in pediatrics, completion of a three-year ACGME-accredited residency program in child neurology, and documentation of completion of USMLE and (if a foreign medical graduate) ECFMG examinations.
The Division of Child Neurology houses a comprehensive EEG laboratory that provides outpatient, inpatient, and consultative services to UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh and Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC, a six-bed Epilepsy Monitoring Unit, ambulatory monitoring capability, several weekly epilepsy clinics, and an active epilepsy surgery program.
Research activities of the Division of Child Neurology focus on neonatal seizures, anticonvulsant metabolism, metabolic disorders, functional neuroimaging and behavioral accompaniments of pediatric epilepsy, and surgical treatment of epilepsy.
