Image Gently™ encourages the awareness of high radiation doses during pediatric CT scans and the implementation of specific factors that will aid in significantly lowering the dose.
Lower dose imaging CT scans using Adaptive Statistical Iterative Reconstruction (ASIR) technology have become a part of the innovative protocol within the Department of Pediatric Radiology at UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. The new ASIR technology applied during a scan cleans up the noise in the image, enabling the necessary radiation dose to be at its lowest possible level. This technology not only enhances the images, but reduces the dose by 40 percent to 60 percent, providing improved patient care and gentle imaging.
The right-dose/right-size protocol in pediatric radiology encourages awareness of high radiation by reducing adult protocols to child-size protocols by adjusting techniques to a child’s size and weight.
