How to Apply to the Orthopaedic Fellowship

Fellows apply and are accepted through the San Francisco Matching Program, www.sfmatch.org. The site opens for applications each year in September. The University of Pittsburgh Pediatric Orthopaedic Fellowship is a one-year experience and is accredited by the Accreditation Council on Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).

Fellows are chosen through the San Francisco Matching Process and must be graduates of a core orthopaedic surgery program accredited by the ACGME or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. In addition, applicants must have
three excellent letters of recommendation and must have passed USMLE parts 1, 2, and 3.

One letter of recommendation must be from the chairman of the applicant’s orthopaedic surgery residency program, and the two other letters should be from orthopaedic surgeons/teaching attendings within the same residency training program. The Fellowship Program will contact each applicant’s medical school and residency program to verify successful completion of that portion of their training.

All fellows will be required to obtain a Pennsylvania medical training license to participate in the fellowship. This license is required by Pennsylvania regardless of any unrestricted licenses the fellow may currently hold.
