The Division of Genetic and Genomic Medicine maintains an active basic science and clinical research program. Our laboratory research program focuses on discovering the underlying causes of genetic diseases, understanding the clinical implications of mutations in genes and development of novel approaches for treatment of genetic disorders.
Researchers at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh have identified numerous new genetic disorders and are studying novel therapeutic mechanisms through cellular and mouse models. Genomics, proteomics and flux analysis techniques are providing new insight into mechanisms of disease that will grow in importance as the understanding of gene interactions broadens.
