Surveillance for Potential Viruses Linked to Acute Flaccid Myelitis (AFM)

Protocol Description

This research study is for children ages 6 months to 9 years to help researchers understand the types and frequency of viruses amongst children with respiratory symptoms in our area of the country throughout the year.

Benefits

Any information discovered may help to improve the care of children in the future. You will be informed if your child test is positive for SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19.

Eligibility Criteria

Subject to certain exclusion criteria, this study is accepting participants between the ages of 6 months and 9 years. Children should be experiencing one of more of the following symptoms: fever, cough, nasal congestion, runny nose, sore throat, wheezing and/or shortness of breath.

Requirements

Interested participants will have one study visit. We will obtain a nose or throat swab from your child to test for viruses.
